2 charged with animal cruelty

As cruel and appalling the condition of this dog was that it's only mercy would be euthanization, I bet this couple get a small fine compared to the deed and not allowed animals for a 2 year term. Basically, a slap on the wrist.

Ontario, has the weakest laws towards animal cruelty in all of Canada. The Humane Societies hands are tied when it comes to the lack of concern from the government and sometimes has to return animals back to the original owners after a certain time.

It doesn't make sense, but then what does with a government like we have that doesn't care about frivolous things like animals. It's all about taking the all mighty dollar away from the poor and taxing us to death that is important to them.

Two Thunder Bay residents were charged Wednesday with animal cruelty for allegedly failing to provide suitable care for an older pitbull-type dog that had be euthanized.

When the dog was removed from their Northwood-area residence on May 22 after a concerned citizen alerted investigators, it was “very, very emaciated and dehydrated” and had to be put down the same day, said Ontario SPCA inspector Dagmara Cieslik.

“It was in extremely poor conditon. The dog was examined by a veterinarian and it was found to be in such a state where it could not be brought to better health,” Cieslik said.

She said humane society and veterinary staff were shocked by the dog‘s condition.

“I think this is probably one of the worst ones I‘ve seen and I‘ve been working for the humane society for almost 10 years,” she said. “It was a very extreme case. The vet was just appalled.”

The accused are to appear in court June 30.

Animal cruelty is the lowest form of abuse and should be punished severely. Those who are guilty are evil cowards and many also go on to abuse children.

If there are enough citizens that care for animals there is always something that can be done, like promising to vote for those who advocate laws for the prevention of animal cruelty

You might be unaware, there was a 2 month old baby "mauled" and killed monday.

by now you're probably thinking oh crap, another pit story right?
Wrong. It was supposedly a 6 week old LAB puppy that did it.

The only stories that really go public are about "vicious pitbulls" just throwing more fuel to the fire. I'm sure it's pointless to say on this site but I'll say it anyways: It's not the dog, it's the owner!

any fool could take a dog and make it vicious. actually the cute fluffy little toy breeds are the ones that do more damage, but they're not dangerous!! isn't that right....

I could go on forever actually, but I'll really stop commenting after this.

I appreciate what you're doing. I really do. I have a boxer, and am a member of a boxer forum, where 90% of the members dogs are often mistaken as pits. people say terrible things to them along the lines of 'how dare you bring your pit to a public place' and so on.
This craziness really needs to stop.

Hello, Connie:

It's been awhile! Miss our exchanges of comments. A lot of things have happened and the most significant of them is the animal-welfare condition in the Philippines has tremendously improved due to the new law (Anti-rabies Act of 2007). This law has more teeth than the previous one (RA8485) due to the penalty of 5,000 peso per dog caught in the traders possession which he will need to pay plus automatically, they'll be imprisoned for 1-4 years.

Kindly lead your readers to my blog or spread the news to everybody.

Miss hearing from you and Shasta!

Jennifer, headlines are made when reporters use labs, or other dogs regardless of how terrible the act, yet say it's a Pit bull and you get an uproar as the reporters dramatize the event without using fact.
The police themselves have stated that a child is pictured with her arm bandaged up as if the arm was ready to fall off, only to see the child happily playing in the backyard with barely a scratch. Why? Because saying it's a Pit bull and using words like 'viciously attacked', 'mauled' is believable with people who don't understand the Pit bull breeds. How often do you even see the dog and is ieally a Pit bull breed? Probably not.
How quick the public forgets it was a lab ate the womans face off that had to have a new face reconstructed. The children and babies that were KILLED by small breed dogs. But the media doesn't play up these real life trageties as they do the Pit bull breeds.
Remember that Staffordshire that saved his owner from a bear? For once the media used the proper name of the dog hoping this hero dog wouldn't be recognized as a Pit bull.
Between government and the media, they are playing the Pit bull to brainwash the public aking them think these are killer dogs when in fact this is far from the truth. Yet the TRUTH doesn't sell papers and the Pit bull breeds get a worse reputation then ever before.
We tried to show the positive image of the Pit bull breeds and no newspaper or media would come to take our story. Shasta was there all dressed in her certified working clothes on duty, but the media wouldn't come. They want to dictate what their viewers see instead of staying nuetral and giving the readers and viewers the truth.
Hi Greg! It's been a looong time and I must get to your site and read what magnificent work you are doing for the Askal dogs and hope all the readers of my blog do the same. You put your life on the line to save these poor dogs and people MUST be aware of it. I certainly will send as many people to your site as I possibly can.
If anyone is reading this comment, you will see what a heroic persons Greg and his team really are.
Unlike us, they have to pretend they are the buyers and traders and one false move could mean their life along with the dogs they save.
God bless you Greg!
