2 charged with animal cruelty

As cruel and appalling the condition of this dog was that it's only mercy would be euthanization, I bet this couple get a small fine compared to the deed and not allowed animals for a 2 year term. Basically, a slap on the wrist.

Ontario, has the weakest laws towards animal cruelty in all of Canada. The Humane Societies hands are tied when it comes to the lack of concern from the government and sometimes has to return animals back to the original owners after a certain time.

It doesn't make sense, but then what does with a government like we have that doesn't care about frivolous things like animals. It's all about taking the all mighty dollar away from the poor and taxing us to death that is important to them.

Two Thunder Bay residents were charged Wednesday with animal cruelty for allegedly failing to provide suitable care for an older pitbull-type dog that had be euthanized.

When the dog was removed from their Northwood-area residence on May 22 after a concerned citizen alerted investigators, it was “very, very emaciated and dehydrated” and had to be put down the same day, said Ontario SPCA inspector Dagmara Cieslik.

“It was in extremely poor conditon. The dog was examined by a veterinarian and it was found to be in such a state where it could not be brought to better health,” Cieslik said.

She said humane society and veterinary staff were shocked by the dog‘s condition.

“I think this is probably one of the worst ones I‘ve seen and I‘ve been working for the humane society for almost 10 years,” she said. “It was a very extreme case. The vet was just appalled.”

The accused are to appear in court June 30.
